The Mystery
Across every continent stand enormous stone monuments.
Stonehenge.
The Great Pyramid of Giza.
Baalbek.
Sacsayhuamán.
The Moai of Easter Island.
Some individual stones weigh hundreds, even thousands, of tonnes.
How were they moved?
How were they cut so precisely?
And why were they built?
Some people believe ancient humans were far more capable than we realise.
Others claim giants built them.
Some even suggest lost civilisations or extraterrestrials.
So...
What does the evidence actually say?
Let's investigate.
Level One
What Does the Qur'an Say?
The Qur'an tells us that previous nations possessed remarkable strength and engineering abilities.
Allah says regarding the people of Thamūd:
"And remember when He made you successors after ʿĀd and settled you in the land, so you built palaces on its plains and carved homes into the mountains..."
(Qur'an 7:74)
Allah also says about ʿĀd:
"Who is greater than us in strength?"
(Qur'an 41:15)
These verses confirm that some earlier nations possessed extraordinary skills and physical strength.
However, the Qur'an does not connect them to every ancient monument found around the world.

Level Two
What Does Authentic Sunnah Tell Us?
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ confirmed that earlier generations included Adam (AS), who was created sixty cubits tall.
He also confirmed that mankind gradually decreased in height.

However...
The Prophet ﷺ never said giants built the pyramids, Stonehenge or other megalithic structures.
As Muslims, we should not make connections that authentic revelation does not make.

Especially regarding the exact techniques used to move the largest stones.

Many traditional skills have disappeared throughout history.

"How could ordinary humans have moved these?"

Not every unanswered question requires an extraordinary explanation.
Sometimes it simply means more evidence is still waiting to be uncovered.
